Weekly Update – 20 April

We’re back and chomping at the bit

Like the thoroughbreds we have trained ourselves to be over the last few months, we are now entering peak physical condition and ready to compete for, amongst other things: promotion to the Premiership (SERL team,) first place in Division 1 (T1 – still a chance,) mid-table security in Division 1 (T2 – tick,) avoiding relegation play-off in Division 2 (T3 – erm, still an outside chance,) mid-table comfort in Division 3 (T4 – tick) and some confidence, joy, leaps, squeals of delight and cool moves on T5 (except for the oldest swingers in town, Chris and Nick of course – still trying to recapture their youths – sigh.) Just joking of course. The old boys have done good this season, showing those young whippersnappers how we used to do it in our day (shakes proverbial stick and looks wildly around for lost keys.)

Anyway, not much time to spare so a quick run-down of what’s been happening:

Two weeks ago (and sorry for the dreadful puns I am about to inflict on you)…Tigers 2 took a mauling by Lions in Littleport, who have finally got their mojo (but may have left it too late to avoid relegation.) Not looking for easy excuses but Tigers 2 obviously suffering jetlag there from the long journey, disorientated from the pre-match loud music and the new parking system at the venue……whilst Lions didn’t miss much at all. They shot. They scored. We shot. They blocked.
Last Sunday week, the SERL team beat Norwich City 22-14, with James and Lucy trying to outscore each other (sibling rivalry, eh?) Rory and Ross had their own scoring battles too. They drew 4-4 in that personal duel.
The T3 and T5 matches from Sunday 9th are being re-scheduled to Sun 23rd and Sun 30th – see below. A mix-up at the Perse. Apologies to those who made the trip. Won’t happen again.
Having lounged around doing nothing all season, T1 have now got a final sprint finish, starting with a 13-12 victory against City 1 in the vast expanses of Kelsey Kerridge on Tuesday night. Young heartthrob hydrologist Chris Rhodes is singled out for special praise with three goals against his big marker, whilst Becca showed her international opponent a fine turn of pace. Newly-discovered rebounders Jenny and Daisy allowed Tartan Terror Ross to sink a few while TGV (Thomas a Grand Vitesse) took his City passengers for a ride indeed. Next up for T1 is tonight against P1…and again on Sunday against MK! Ultrakorf!
