Contestants! Ready? Gladiators! Ready? Umbrellas! Ready?
Let’s. Play. Korf!
Start those engines. Jump in the back seat. Crack open the biscuits/protein drinks. Turn on Korf FM and enjoy the ride. We’re back for another season of Wacky Korf Races and where better to start off than an old chestnut from last season – the lazy, hazy, crazy away days of the SERL team (anything but lazy actually.) What don’t these funsters get up to? Last season they were chopping and changing line-ups like the Cabinet and no sooner were they all back from a summer of caravanning or barging around the Norfolk Broads than they were What’sApping a team out of thin air and getting back en route to everyone’s second home – UEA Sports Park in Norwich. The opposition were Norwich City, who have a tall boy or two, a nifty girl or three and a burning desire to avenge their failure to make the promotion play-offs last season. The SERLers, though, were straining at the leash to be involved in this one, compelled by a Force to brave the murk and endless flat expanse of the A11.
Alex could barely breathe with excitement. Caitlyn broke the internet to find the match details. Harry arrived the night before with his sleeping bag. Rosie, Martha, Molly and Joseph were spotted on the A11 hitching a lift (joke) while Jonny didn’t get that far on his bike (another joke.) If Panther taxis need drivers, Ross and Caitlin are available, have clocked up the miles and know the roads. Ever eager Handy Andy Hall even offered to cut short his Disneyland holiday to offer assistance but his wise wife said no (obviously being aware that Andy’s NL player status would break the rules – he married a wise woman indeed.) As for the match, it was more competitive than the Norwich City 30-12 Tigers scoreline suggests. They are on a mission this season and we are limbering up still. Several people were obviously still digesting their dinners, strupwaffles and shortbread afters ….but 4 goals for Joseph certainly stands out. The SERL team now have a month’s break, such are the vagaries of early season match scheduling. Their next opponents will be…..you guessed it…Norwich City! At the Perse no less! Where the weather will be much better and the scoreline much closer.
The Artists Formerly Known As Tigers 1, now newly-named Tigers 3, took to the hallowed Perse boards on Sunday evening for their first run-out of the season too. It was a chance for a couple of surly SERLies to take out some frustration for the earlier defeat during the day. ‘Surly’ is much too strong a word of course for two of our finest gentlemen players, but who better for Luckless Luuk and Ruthless Ross to ambush than an unsuspecting, innocent and off-guard Vikings 2 team, led by Jolly Jerram, who probably saw this coming when he saw the T3 line-up: Billy ‘The Brains’ Carswell, Genius Jess Llewelyn, Overlord Ollie Francis, Lethal Lavinia Harlow, flanked by Spitfire Sam Oldham and Breakneck Brecca Bretell, aided and abetted by Ninefoot Nick Francis and Marvellous Martha Llewelyn (aka Llewelyn Number 4 aka The Natural.) That game ended in a 22-8 victory and an impressive 3-goal debut there for Lavinia….. plus 5 no less for young Master Francis. There will be harder challenges ahead of course (especially from Tigers 4) but start as you mean to go on T3, I say (starting this coming Sunday against reigning champs City 1.)
Just a quick heads-up to people that there is no training on Wed 16 Oct due to a Perse open day. Don’t worry. That’s the only one this season.
