17 Oct 18: The weekend condensed

Is that the time already? There is so much korf going on at the moment, I don’t know what day of the week it is. It’s certainly late for an update so we’d better make it quick….

…As quick as a young Sam Oldham whizzing by a stupefied and out of puff Nick Armitage in the first five seconds of the T2-T4 local derby on Sunday evening. After his charity trumpet-playing marathon all day Sunday, Nick forgot his shooting hands and had to resort to shaking his head and wildly waving his arms at the pesky young Oldham and Francis stepped on his patch and ruined his proverbial marrows. Shouts out to first-time Tiger Betsy and second-timer Rachael, the latter getting on the score sheet and the former vowing to do so in the next match. Just the one for Sarah this time (can’t remember when that last happened.) Rely on Billy of course to show em all how it’s done, dusting off her cardigan, kicking off the slippers and popping in three. Good debuts too from young Max and Luka – two for Teleki (Two-Goal Teleki – I can see it now.) T2 won that one 13-7 but the return fixture is this Sunday, for which Nick is sharpening his catapult and vowing revenge.

We shouldn’t forget T1 beforehand too, who dispatched City 2 16-4 in their continuing push to win Division 1 by November. I am sure other sides will have something to say about that, but it’s hard to argue against a team where pretty much everyone got on the score sheet with a goal or two each. Hand them the title now (before any of them get injured subbing on for SERL.) Give those parents a nice flask of team to keep them warm on the sidelines too. They’re avid followers and great support for the club, especially as many of them were also present for the under 14s on Sunday morning, watching their future England internationals (that’s a fact) competing against Bearsted and coming back to beat City.

Lots more coming local league matches coming up as the start of the Regional League and National League seasons draw closer. Keep your eyes peeled.
